Hello! I'm Nelson, and I use my education experience and strong interpersonal skills to help students succeed. I believe in positive reinforcement and constructive feedback to give students the tools and confidence that will help them get to the point where they won't need a tutor anymore! I have noticed, and I'm sure you have too, that most students are better than they believe, and smarter than they believe. They just need the right person that has their interests in mind, outside a classroom setting and away from an environment of constant comparisons, to help them see how amazing they are!
I am a junior, studying mathematics at the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities. After I graduate, I plan on getting my teacher's license to allow me to educate and inspire the next generation of students. For the 2024-2025 school year, I worked at an elementary school, doing before and after school care. Not only could I help students have fun, but also found many opportunities to help them learn. In the summers of 2024 and 2025, I worked at YMCA camp Manitou, helping children from ages 4-13 see the beauty of nature and the thrill of adventure. Additionally, I have two younger siblings who I have tutored for years. I was homeschooled, and taught myself algebra and calculus from nothing but a textbook. From rereading pages to pretending to tutor myself, I have a unique perspective and understanding that helps me explain these ideas in a very simple way, because I know what it's like to be so confused that you want to throw your textbook out the window.
My mission, as a tutor, is to make each lesson maximally rewarding, educational, and fun. My goal is to help students become self-sufficient through confidence, determination, patience, and good study habits. Please contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson!
