Hi students!
I'm Brett! After graduating magna cum laude (3.76 GPA) from university (Bachelor of Science - History / English), I eventually took great interest in language learning, which lead me to completing my CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) in Almaty, Kazakhstan, in 2016.
Since then, I have taught English as a foreign language. Most of my teaching experience is with native Russian speakers (I lived in St. Petersburg, Russia for 5 years and Almaty, Kazakhstan for 1, and I speak Russian fluently). However, I am open to students of any native language! I teach all kinds of lessons to teens and adults - general English, IELTS, CAE, FCE, PET, and TOEFL, group lessons, and individual lessons.
For general English learners, depending on your wants / needs, I teach all kinds of lessons. I teach content-based lessons in which we discuss / analyze a specific topic through English. Also, I teach functional language, in which we learn how to DO things in English like ordering food, apologizing, complaining, expressing opinion, etc. I also conduct grammar-based lessons: analysis and practice of grammar via texts, listening tasks, etc. And many more!
ALL lessons will have a speaking component and some dedicated time for personalized feedback regarding grammar and vocabulary.
There's lots you can expect from me as your tutor! You can expect me to be well-prepared, have a strong analytical understanding of English grammar, give careful attention to your language needs, create personalized lessons, check the progress of your goals, and review topics that give you difficulties. And, of course, give you lots of fun homework after every lesson :)
Outside of teaching, I spend my free time playing piano, playing chess, writing stories, reading, traveling, and rollerblading.
Hope to meet you soon!
