I graduated from Bowdoin College with a degree in Biochemistry and earned my Masters in the Art of Teaching from Clarkson University. I've been teaching high school science for the past 11 years, as well as coaching cross country and track. I hold a NY state professional teaching certification for grades 7-12. In college, I was a Division I athlete, can you guess the sport?!

I tutor a variety of subjects including AP Biology/Biology, Chemistry, Writing (grades 7-12, collegiate research papers, and lab reports), Neuroscience, English, and Biochemistry. I also have over five years experience working one-on-one with students with executive functioning challenges. I help them improve their executive functioning skills, learn active study techniques, work on time management, and utilize strategies for staying organized. My knowledge of neuroscience helps me to understand how different brains function, so I can help students learn in a way that best suits their individual learning style.

I take pride in being able to explain concepts in easy to understand ways. I help students make connections between the material and the real world so they understand why what they're learning is important. I help students learn tips and tricks to understand the root of the material, rather than just memorize ideas. I am extremely organized, and with over 10 years of teaching and tutoring experience, I know what helps students learn best!

My students love me because I am kind, patient, have a good sense of humor, and make learning active and engaging. Let me know if you'd like to learn more about what it would be like to work with me!

ADHD

For the past five years I have worked one-on-one with students to boost their academic success, focusing on building skills to overcome executive functioning challenges. From teaching neuroscience, I have a strong understanding of how the brain works and what strategies students (from a wide range of backgrounds) can employ to be successful. I am upbeat and fun, and know when to be direct and when to be compassionate.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

For over five years, I have been working one-on-one with students to boost their academic success, focusing on building study skills. A main area I work with students on is math, and how to gain confidence in math. I teach students how to understand why math works, not just how to memorize formulas. I also teach math comprehension strategies, for example, when adding 20+18 you can add 20+20 and then subtract 2.
Anatomy

Anatomy

I designed the curriculum for an Anatomy & Kinesiology class that looks at the body through the lens of exercise and movement. I've been teaching the class for five years. I pride myself in making sure the information connects to real-world examples, like how performance enhancing substances affect athlete's bodies. As a former D1 athlete who still loves to exercise, I have an appreciation and love for how the body works!

Amazing tutor

Erin explained three chapters of my textbook in an hour. I wish my professor broke down the material as clearly and efficiently as she did! I’m grateful to have found her.

Dependable, Responsible and Amazing Biology Tutor

Erin is a fantastic Biology tutor. She has helped my son understand all the most challenging concepts in his Honors Biology class and even prepped him well for his AP exam in Biology. She knows her stuff and can explain it precisely and concisely, which would trigger your child’s curiosity about the subject. She has a superior command of the subject area she teaches, which would satisfy any serious student with an ambitious agenda. She tries to be there for him - given her super tight schedule. She wants him to succeed. A great teacher all in all!

Organization Specialist - Executive Functioning

I couldn't be happier with how Erin has worked with our 7th grader who needed help specifically with Executive Functioning. We have had a few sessions and seeing a huge improvement. Will definitely keep using Erin as she is easy to work with, connects well with the student, and we are seeing results!

Very kind and supportive

Erin worked with my daughter who was overwhelmed by a heavy workload in high school. Erin is a great listener and helped my daughter break down her work into more manageable tasks. She also offered check ins in between sessions to help my daughter stay accountable. I highly recommend Erin for any student who struggles with executive functioning skills!

Knowledgeable and Patient tutor

Ms Erin H started tutoring my daughter 4 weeks ago in AP Biology. My daughter was struggling 3 weeks into the new class and her confidence level was dropping. Her grade after 4 weeks has improved and my daughter says she is getting it now. The confidence is better and comprehension of the material is easier. She says Ms Erin explains the concepts really well and she is patient. Definitely recommend her to any kid struggling out there with high school classes.

Really helpful!

I came to Erin with a very specific college research project paper. She helped me organize, edit, and make sense of what I was trying to say. I'm really grateful for the patient and knowledgeable help.
