I have been an educator for five years. I have an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s In Special Education. I’m currently in a post baccalaureate program in Autism Studies. I’ve worked as both a general and special educator, and I’m passionate about teaching!

I teach in a multi-sensory, structured, and explicit way. I discuss goals with my students (even my youngest), so they can be involved participants in their own learning. I use visuals and predicable, yet engaging, routines to help my students grow as learners. I’m passionate about learning and reading, and even my reluctant readers pick up on this attitude.

I have a Master’s degree in Special Education, and I am currently enrolled in an Autism Studies Program. I work as an inclusion/resource teacher, so I am proficient in current intervention strategies and support in both academics and social/behavioral learning. I am trained in Orton Gillingham Plus (with phonological awareness) and Wilson Reading Program. An explicit, synthetic, and multi sensory approach is key when working with students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties. I use monthly progress monitoring to determine my students’ present levels and growth and I communicate this progress with their parents.

Please contact me if you’d like to learn more about my services or if you have any questions. Should there be any need for cancellation, I would appreciate at least a 24 hour window.

Highly skilled, creative tutor

Kate has been working with my 7 year old son who is a struggling reader. She uses Orton-Gillingham and Wilson methods which incorporate multi-sensory activities into the learning process. Kate brings wonderful hands on reading activities that are creative and help my son to read in a way that traditional methods have fallen short. She has assessed his areas of weakness and strength and tailored the lesons to his specific needs. My son is a wiggle worm and reading is far from his favorite thing to do. Kate's patience, kindness and skill level in teaching really shines through in my sons attitude. Still not his favorite but he's gone from "I hate it, it's horrible" to sharing little tools she's showed him out of the blue, and giving the tutoring a medium thumbs up. He wishes she was his teacher in school. Overall Kate's qualifications and passion are a great find in a tutor and I couldn't have hoped for a better person to help my son learn to read.

Patient & Responsive to my daughters needs

My daughter struggles with reading and has a lot of energy. Kate was patient and responsive to her needs. She was able to make phonics and sight words fun, and my daughter was excited to show me what she learned! Can't wait for the next lesson!
