As a student approaches a subject, there are two major factors to success: a solid foundation in the fundamentals and skills at solving problems. The fundamentals are very important for understanding why aspects of the subject work the way they do and to be able to build on one aspect to understand others. Being able to solve problems means the student can apply what they have learned in useful ways. As a tutor, my role is to insure that the student is proficient in both parts of learning...

As a tutor, my role is to insure that the student is proficient in both parts of learning the subject, using a systematic approach which is part of the general learning processes. The first step is to identify the student's strengths and weaknesses in the subject. The aspects where there is difficulty can then be addressed in smaller pieces, which is less overwhelming. As the student grasps the pieces, there is a sense of accomplishment, making continuing progress easier. As the fundamentals and problem solving get stronger, test results will reflect the improvement.

I have a BS in physics and PhD in physics (astrophysics) from MIT, doing extensive teaching and tutoring along the way. I created and taught "A Crash Course in C", a 16-hour course, which is still being taught today. Since then, I worked at a software company, using Python and Perl to do part of my job. I am now returning to the world of education, one aspect being tutoring.

I developed and taught "A Crash Course in C" at MIT for 6 years. It was a 16-hour class covering all of the language. I also used C for my graduate school research and at my job, so I can give real-world context when tutoring.

Python

To do part of my job as a software development manager, I taught myself Python, building on other languages and general programming skills. Having taught myself, and then used it extensively, puts me in a good position to tutor others.

Calculus,

Calculus

As an undergraduate and graduate student in physics, applied mathematics, including calculus, differential equations, and linear algebra, was one of the main tools used to solve problems. When teaching physics, if the student was not comfortable with the math needed to understand the material, I filled in the gaps.
Physics,

Physics

As an undergraduate and graduate student in physics, I taught physics (mechanics and electromagnetism) in several modes: a recitation instructor, teaching assistant, and tutor.

The best tutor!

Anand has helped me feel confident in my studies of physics. He is very patient with me, and he always makes it so I understand the concepts instead of just trying to cram the information into my brain. His tutoring skills are also very evident in my performance in the class now. I wouldn't be able to do it without him!

The Best

Anand has a unique way of helping students master physical concepts. The results are stunning. My son's mid-term test scores jumped by 30 points within a month! That says it all!.

Excellent AP Physics tutor

Aside from being very adaptable with his schedule, which can be very important with busy high school seniors and working parents, his patient approach is a joy to observe. You'll hear laughter and spontaneous discourse, yet he's always focused on increasing the students understanding of the fundamental concepts, and testing the understanding with problem solving. Our cranky dog also likes him, so that says it all right there!

Great physics teacher

Anand is an excellent physics teacher. He was patient. He took his time, explaining the concepts I was studying in class in a way that made sense to me, and I was able to understand them. He motivated me to want to learn more about physics. I will definitely work with Anand again!

Patient Tutor

Anand was patient and explained all of the basics of the game (scoring, positions, types of offensive/defensive ball contact etc.) before practicing basic skills with my daughter.

Best Tutor Wyzant Has To Offer

The best of the best! I've had 3 different calculus tutors from this site, but Anand is by far the most helpful.

Excellent Tutor!

Anand helped me succeed in a coding course I was struggling with through his patient and thorough explanations. He always steered me towards discovering the answer for myself as opposed to simply spoon-feeding it to me. A fantastic tutor overall. Definitely recommend!
