Bio

I have been tutoring off and on since 2010 - everything from college algebra to nursing chemistry to high school physics. I really enjoy working through difficult material helping students understand achieve what they might have thought they couldn't. It's very rewarding to see a student take pride in what they were able to accomplish. I make it a point that my tutoring sessions are judgement free zones. There are truly no dumb questions - just do your best!

I hold a Masters in Mathematics and I am in an engineering PhD program where I use computer programming languages frequently. I do most of my work in R but I'm very familiar with SPSS. I have a working knowledge of statistics and probability. I consider math something that I love but it did not come naturally to me. I understand the need to explain things in more than one way sometimes for it to sink in. I also tend to use fun techniques for memorization as it's always helped me remember large amounts of information.

I hold a BS chemistry and minored in biology. I actually taught a general chemistry lab section and chemistry is my favorite subject to tutor. I've tutored AP Chem, Gen Chem, and the chemistry course required for nursing students. I also teach dance in my spare time and love to travel!

I am very personable! I will do my best to meet you where you are and help you meet your goals. No judgement zone. :)

Patient and in depth tutor

Hillary was very conscientious and when teaching new concepts make sure that our daughter understood things well before moving onto the next concept. She is able to relate to high school students and mirror how they are being taught in school. She was helpful in building our daughter’s confidence of her AP chem skills.

EXCEPTIONAL Algebra 2, Analysis of Functions & Chemistry Tutor! Extremely Knowledgeable, flexible & patient

Hillary has been SUCH a blessing to my daughter! She tried several Algebra tutors but none seemed to be able to communicate with my daughter in a way that helped her understand the topic. Then we found Hillary! Hillary is extremely knowledgeable, kind, patient and non-judgmental. She never gets frustrated when my daughter gets stuck in an area or needs additional help. Instead, she gets creative and attacks the problem in a different manner until she finds a way to “make it make sense” to her. She even provides extra resources and questions, when necessary, to ensure my daughter solidifies each concept. Hillary is very organized and has a huge range of knowledge. My daughter was so comfortable working with her that she was THRILLED when we discovered that Hillary could also help her with Chemistry. My daughter’s best subject has always been science until Chemistry because of the additional math involved. True to form, however, Hillary worked with my daughter and helped her bring her B’s up to A’s in BOTH Algebra 2 and Chemistry! When my daughter’s class is “in between” topics and there is no work to cover, Hillary has been working on ACT Prep with her to keep all her skills fresh. Finally, this year, my daughter is taking Analysis of Functions. Thanks to continued lessons with Hillary, (over 30, to date) my daughter has achieved an A each quarter AND become more self-confident where math is concerned.
