Indiana University (Master's)
My name is Jen. I have worked as a painter since graduating from IU Bloomington in 2000 in the Fine Arts. My website is www.jenniferherrold.com Recently I am pursuing my MFA at IU in Graphic Design, as I also do freelance work in this field.
I have accumulated around 5 years of teaching experience in a variety of situations. This past year I taught Introduction to Graphic design at IU, which covered the basics of design and the Adobe Creative Suite software. In addition, I taught high school art for a year at Greencastle High School. I attended Interlochen Arts Academy for high school and returned as faculty during the summer camp in 2006. I have run workshops for Elementary students with a non-profit, Castle Arts, where science and art are combined to make them more interesting. Along the lines of science, in Ann Arbor MI, I taught and developed classes at the local children's museum- light, matter, simple machines and electricity. I worked as the in-house designer at Putnam County Public Library for 5 years and also gave art workshops in the Children's library.
I was prepared to teach Color & Design at IU this semester due to a rigorous interview process, but took a Photoshop tutoring job instead. My family are all artists. My mother taught textiles at Interlochen Arts Academy and my father was the ceramics professor at DePauw Univeristy from the 70s until recently- so art has always been a way of life.
Please contact me so we can talk about your interests and how I can be of service. I can specially tailor the lesson to get the most out of our time together. I am asking for $25 an hour. The first time we meet I also require $10 for supplies, but that's a one time charge. My name is Jen. I have worked as a painter since graduating from IU Bloomington in 2000 in the Fine Arts. For painting, the $25 per hour also requires a $10 supply charge for the first lesson. This will be waived any subsequent lessons.
I went into this tutoring session with no experience in the fine arts at all. Jennifer proved to be very knowledgeable on the subject matter. She answered all my questions and had great drawing exercises for me to do when I arrived. She was enthusiastic in helping me improve my drawing skill, genuinely interested in my goals as an artist, and realistic about how to reach them. She is very kind, plus her own impressive artwork decorates her studio, so you know she is very talented and passionate about the arts. I'd highly recommend, if I didn't just get an internship in a different city, I'd be back in a second!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I taught Introduction to Graphic Design at Indiana University 2014-2015. The class involved learning the principles of design and how to use the Adobe Creative Suite to transmit that.
I have worked as a fine artist primarily for 15 years and have sold over 300 paintings. I have a BA in studio art which required the fundamental classes as well has courses in other art fields. Drawing is the basic foundation. I've taught drawing at Interlochen Arts Camp in 2006 and it's pretty much the basis of all other art courses I've taught as well.
I am working on my MFA in Graphic Design at IU. I was the in-house designer for Putnam County Public Library for 5 years as well as did freelance work to supplement my painting and the aforementioned position.
I have sold over 300 paintings. I do portraiture mainly because that's what people want. They can not just be a standard portrait however. My paintings are colorful and have a narrative which adds a layer of depth. I have a BA at IU with a concentration in painting.
