My name is Molly C. and I am an art educator, fine artist and children's book author-illustrator. I received a BFA in painting from Washington University in St. Louis and a certificate in K-12 art education from the Art Institution of Chicago. I have taught visual art in public and private schools, online, and in art centers and museums for over 20 years. In my capacity as a professional artist, I have exhibited my paintings in galleries and museums both locally and nationally. I also write and illustrated children's picture books.
As an art teacher, both in person and online, I have taught a wide variety of art media to PK-12th grade students, including: drawing, painting, printmaking, illustration, sculpture and craft, as well as art history. I have taught a wide range of ages and abilities, and for many year worked specifically with ESL and special education students. I have also worked as a teaching artist, collaborating with classroom teachers to design and implement integrated arts curriculum.
I believe that the visual arts help to build fine motor skills, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and social-emotional awareness. When integrated with other subject areas, it can truly enhance learning. I strive to create a classroom environment that is supportive and encouraging, and that builds upon the strengths and skills of each student.
As a tutor I will develop curriculum specific to your goals. I create a slide presentation for each lesson which may include:
1) Intro with check in regarding materials and lesson objectives
2) Art Historical reference as it relates to skill being taught. Includes visual examples and historical information.
3) Art Instruction regarding Elements and Principles of Art and/or technical skill being taught (ex: shape, line, volume, perspective, pattern, shading, color mixing).
4) Conclusion (sharing or answering reflective questions).
I look forward to working with you!
