For 10 years I've been teaching students from absolute beginners to grade 12 students preparing for top U.S. universities (most recently 7/94 into Ivy League). For 10 years I've been teaching students from absolute beginners to grade 12 students preparing for top U.S. universities (most recently 7/94 into Ivy League). When we work together, it will be a collective effort and I will give you options to ensure that you not only share the message you intend but that it's in your voice, too.
As a teacher, I also learn through my students and their experiences. Coaching students with essays and personal statements is my favorite. Understanding how to structure your writing in a detailed way so the receiver understands what you're trying to teach them is a powerful tool that I want to help you improve.
I began in Indonesia teaching communicative and business English. Most of my students were university students who have gone on to international or foreign universities in native-English speaking or English-fluent countries (like the Netherlands) in addition to running international companies across Indonesia.
In South Korea, I taught academic English to students preparing for international high schools and universities ranging from ages 8-18 covering listening, reading, speaking, grammar, writing, and TOEFL prep.
For three years in Japan, I taught at a Super English senior high school (like university prep). The students at this school regularly competed at the highest and national levels of English debate and various English speech and writing competitions. I taught grammar and communicative English classes; tutored students one-on-one for reading comprehension and public speaking, and held interview practice for government/university exams. The students have gone on to study in five countries and a number of prefectural universities throughout Japan.
Finally, I taught at Beijing no. 4 Senior High School, one of the top two public high schools in all of China. I was teaching university-style English based on AP classes. I taught literature analysis; critical/analytical research writing; and organization of research papers qualifying evidence and its sources.

Great Teacher

Jen was really sweet and patient. She helped me a lot in both sessions. She explained everything thoroughly, which made me understand how to write my paper so much better than before. She reviewed my writing and made sure to tell me what was needed.

Wonderful personality, intuitive to my needs, engaging and knowledgable tutor

I didn't have a clear picture in mind on how to improve my writing and speaking skills when I first met with Jen. All I knew is that I wanted to write better emails at work and get more comfortable speaking in business meetings. In just two sessions, Jen figured out what's holding me back and came up with various approaches on how to achieve my goals. Jen is a very engaging, resourceful and fun tutor. You know that you hit a jackpot with a teacher when you look forward to the next session with them with excitement.
