I'm an educator with ten years of experience and a proud two-time AmeriCorps alumna! I received my MA degree from the University of Chicago and I currently work in administration at a private research institution and as a program manager at a local non-profit (wherein I consult high school students on college applications to public and private institutions). Work experience in admissions offices and residence life at two private universities in the US informs my knowledge of what universities are looking for. I leverage my training in fields such as international relations, history, political science, linguistics, religion, and anthropology to guide my students' critical thinking skills, strengthen their writing skills, and refine their research.

I am trained in the following subjects:
- Spanish: all levels and ages, standard and dialect
- Turkish: Beginner, Intermediate
- Arabic: Beginner & Intermediate MSA, Beginner Egyptian & Levantine
- ESL: all levels and ages
- Writing: applications, coursework, scholarships/fellowships, jobs (resumes and cover letters)
- Academic Counseling: undergraduate and graduate programs
- Federal language grants (NSLIY, CLS, FLAS, Gilman, Fulbright, Boren)

I'm comfortable with all age groups and have taught hundreds of students in 4 countries. In language learners, I hone grammar skills and work on self-expression and pronunciation. I've trained students in the reading and writing section of standardized testing with positive outcomes both in the United States and abroad.

I speak 8 languages, which I've learned both in the classroom and independently. I continue developing them while learning new ones. This also helps me correct English mistakes made based on a student's native language. For example, students of Turkish origins struggle with gender because Turkish is not a gendered language whereas Arabic speakers struggle with 'the' and 'a' given the abundance and specific rules their usage carries in Arabic.

I'm easy to reach and respond promptly.

Caring, skilled, and FANTASTIC tutor!!

Jessica was extremely approachable since our very first meeting. She has helped me tremendously with my college-level essays. I was extremely nervous starting my first year in college and writing for my courses, but Jessica helped me transition and ease my stress. I have learned so much from her since our first lesson. I know I can always count on her to help write an outline, put my ideas into words, and revise my essays. She will give constructive feedback and talk them out with you and explain her edits/suggestions, which is vastly beneficial. Jessica takes the time to understand your needs for an assignment, and I have never felt more secure and comfortable with a tutor before. She is very flexible and accommodating to your schedule and time zone! I am so grateful I found a tutor like her, and I will continue returning to her whenever I need assistance with my writing! I cannot emphasize enough how amazing and skilled she is!! Thank you Jessica for all your help!! :)

Fantastic tutor

Jessica has had an enormous impact on my daughter, Ally, who is in the 8th grade. Ally started out hating Spanish but since working with Jessica, she actually looks forward to Spanish. Her confidence speaking in class has grown enormously and her grades indicate that she is now at the top of her Spanish class, ready to continue language study in high school. Jessica is very organized and has a formal lesson plan for each meeting. Being a polyglot herself, she is very knowledgeable about how best to approach learning a language and how to encourage enthusiasm for language study. I give Jessica my highest recommendation as a tutor.

Great Tutor!!!!

Jessica helped me with my college essays. She was extremely helpful and offered insight in my planning, writing, and editing stages. Throughout our sessions I became very confident in my writing and was able to get accepted into almost all of the colleges I applied to. She is also very kind and accommodating. I would highly recommend Jessica to anyone who is starting, in the middle, or finishing up their college essays!

EXCELLENT writing coach

Jessica did a phenomenal job helping me improve my essays for my college courses. I can tell that I am becoming a better writer the more I work with her. Each session, she is so kind, detail-oriented, and gives very good constructive feedback. I am very happy I found her on Wyzant! She has also helped me with my personal statement for an extremely competitive summer research program. With her help, I was accepted into the program!! Needless to say, I highly recommend Jessica and will continue working with her!!! Thank you, Jessica!

Extremely knowledgeable and fun tutor

I enjoy my weekly lessons with Jessica so much, because she is extremely patient knowledgeable. Jessica tailors each lesson to meet my personal level and understanding, as an adult learner who is beyond a beginner level Spanish but not quite comfortable at intermediate speaking. Her lessons are engaging and interesting. One of my favorite parts of having Jessica as my tutor is that she always includes a new weekly slang or phrase, to help me activate my Spanish skills outside of standard learning. I strongly recommend Jessica to anyone working towards becoming bilingual, especially as an adult learner!

Amazing and skilled tutor!

Jessica helped me immensely with completing my college applications for several schools. I appreciate a lot that she jumped in last-minuted and took the time for me. She was very patient and open in our lessons. She gave me clear and plausible feedback, which was exactly what I needed. I can only recommend Jessica; she really knows what she's doing.

outstanding tutor for graduate program

Jessica provided top-quality advising for my PhD applications in STEM. Despite this not being her academic field, she was able to advise me efficiently on how to produce the best essays (statements of purpose and personal statements) for my applications to numerous high caliber institutions. She was mindful of what I wanted to keep in my writing and pushed me to be as concise as possible in each document. On top of being very detailed with her editing and proofreading, she gave me pointers on the other parts of the application. She starts every session with a rundown of the lesson goals and wraps up with reviewing the progress and identifying the deliverables. I recommend her to anyone pursuing graduate school and I’m thankful I got to work with her.

College counseling

In the past couple of months, Jessica has been helping me a lot with my dual enrollment college-level English course and the whole college applications process (both the Common App and the UC system). She relies on her experience working on college campuses to offer valuable advice on the process and the content itself. Her teaching background makes her a great communicator; she always explains her suggestions on my papers and never assumes I know or don’t know something! Not only has she helped me write killer essays that got me into my dream school but our tutoring sessions have also improved my writing skills and increased my confidence level. Her flexibility and response rate are unbeatable!
