I'm an educator with 10+ years of experience, a Fulbrighter, and a two-time AmeriCorps alumna. I received my MA degree from the University of Chicago and currently work in student affairs/higher education at a private research institution. Previously, I was a program manager at a local non-profit consulting high school students on college applications to public and private institutions. Experience in admissions offices and residence life at two private universities in the US informs my knowledge of what higher education institutions are looking for.

I leverage my training in fields like international relations, history, political science, linguistics, religion, and anthropology to guide my students' critical thinking skills, strengthen their writing skills, and refine their research.

I am trained to teach the following subjects:
- Spanish: all levels and ages, standard and dialect
- Turkish: Beginner, Intermediate
- Arabic: Beginner & Intermediate MSA, Beginner Egyptian (Cairene)
- ESL: all levels and ages
- Writing: applications, coursework, scholarships/fellowships, jobs (resumes and cover letters)
- Academic Counseling: undergraduate and graduate programs
- Federal language grants: NSLIY, CLS, FLAS, Gilman, Fulbright, Boren

I'm comfortable with all age groups and have taught hundreds of students - from kindergarten to first year of college - in 4 countries. In language learners, I hone grammar skills and work on self-expression and pronunciation. I've trained students in the reading and writing sections of standardized testing both in the US and abroad.

I speak 8 languages, which I've learned both in the classroom and independently. This facilitates correcting common English mistakes made based on a student's native language. For example, students of Turkish origins struggle with assigning gender because Turkish is not a gendered language whereas Arabic speakers struggle with 'the' and 'a' given the abundance and specific rules their usage carries in Arabic.

I'm easy to reach and respond promptly.

Absolutely Magnificent!

Jessica is honest, has an eye for detail, respects the overall piece, provides constructive feedback, and truly wants her students to succeed. She is obsessed with grammar and motivating her students to make their piece uniquely beautiful. Over the course of 2 months, Jessica and I crafted a personal statement, 25 college-specific essays to highly selective schools and programs, as well as a one page resume. In an informal yet polite, respectful, and clear manner we communicated daily in order to reach my goals even before deadlines. Jessica is the best and most effective editor I have had the privilege of working with. Without her help I would not have gotten into my dream school and program boasting a 3% acceptance rate from my region. I highly recommend her to everyone! Thank you, Za’Niya W

Jessica is the best

I love this teacher. She is professional, patient and she is always ready to help. Also, she is full of positive energy, and it does not matter what is your level in English because she knows how to deal with each level. If I need help with any assignment, she is the first one who comes in my mind. I'm writing this review to thank her because she gave me the confidence to speak English and because she helped me a lot in my college assignments. Definitely, I recommend her to anyone who wants to master the English language.

VERY professional and easy for my daughter to talk to

I loved that she dove right into the material and made it easy for my daughter to share her ideas. I was nervous that my daughter would be nervous and the session would be uncomfortable at times, but Jessica kept it moving along!

Jessica is such an effective tutor!

My sessions with Jessica are always productive. I reached out to her when I was struggling to write cover letters during a job search. She is extremely talented at interpreting and synthesizing your experience and the information you share to craft the perfect statements. In our first session, she went above and beyond by voluntarily helping me refine my resume. I promptly heard back about a great position at a renowned institution after submitting my cover letter and refined resume. I am certain I wouldn't have gotten the job without Jessica's masterful skills. Jessica is incredibly efficient and supportive. I plan on continuing to work with her whenever I need help with resumes/cover letters/applications. I promise, you'll be glad you worked with her!
