After teaching in the classroom for almost 2 decades, I realized my passion for working one on one with students. Working one on one enables me to learn more about each individual's personality, background, learning styles, likes and dislikes. With the goal of being better able to support every student, I created Bridge the Gap Tutoring & Educational Consulting, LLC. Bridge the Gap Tutoring & Educational Consulting, LLC provides tutoring support according to developmentally appropriate learning practices, emotional support and educational consulting for students of all abilities from preschool through 8th grade. With experience leading Bilingual and General Education classrooms in addition to experience in Special Education, I have the experience necessary to help your student become a confident learner! Confident learners understand new concepts, put knowledge into use and are able to problem solve more independently. I work to find the tools and skills that help individual students learn at their full potential. When students become proficient implementing the educational and developmental tools that serve them best, they can accomplish whatever they set their mind to do! Please be in touch to discuss support for your student!

American History

American History

I always scored well in History in high school and college. Recently, I have taken a great interest in History and spend a significant amount of my free time watching documentaries and reading about historical figures and events. I also like to travel in my free time and recently traveled to Galena, IL to see the family home of Ulysses S. Grant and to Springfield, IL to visit the Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum, as well as the cemetery where the former President is buried. It was a very moving experience.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I have over 10 years experience teaching in elementary schools. My experience includes lead teaching in mainstream classrooms and small group work in Special Needs classes. I have a B.A. in Education and am certified to teach by the State of Illinois.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I have taught elementary math for 10 years in both public and private schools. I believe math should be a kinesthetic (hands-on) activity to allow for greater understanding.
English

English

As a strong communicator, I always scored well in English.
ESL/ESOL

ESL/ESOL

As a certified teacher of over 20 years, I have had a wealth of experience with learners. As a lead classroom teacher, I taught English Language Learners (ELL students) in a Bilingual (Spanish) classroom with a strong ELL program. I have experience teaching students to read two different languages, in addition to English, so I am very familiar with how the rules for speaking and reading English differ from foreign languages. I am happy to help learners master the English language by helping them learn proper grammar structure, the past, present and future tenses and how to use vocabulary correctly.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

In high school, I acted onstage in the theater and since then have gone to be a teacher, which always includes public speaking. In my personal life I also often am asked to speak publicly. I can teach students about proper wording for speeches, how to prepare for speaking engagements, how to project and overcome nerves and anxiety.
Reading

Reading

It is my goal to build your students confidence, fluency and grow their love of reading. My techniques include meeting them at their developmental level to practice letter sounds, sounding out words, spelling, sight words and consonant blends. After your student begins to read with fluency I will support them so they can feel comfortable analyzing, interpreting and making predictions about what they are reading.
Spanish

Spanish

I studied Spanish for 3 years in high school and then continued to study Spanish at Northeastern Illinois University as a minor to accompany my education degree. After I graduated I taught bilingual Kindergarten both in Chicago and New York. As a substitute teacher, I was frequently requested by TWI (Two Way Immersion) bilingual teachers to step in to led the classroom in their absence.
Special Needs

Special Needs

I have over 5 years of experience working with students with Special Needs. In Evanston School District 65, I spent a few months every year working with Special Needs students, both at Park School, a school specifically set up for students with Special Needs, as well as in many other classrooms throughout the district. The main focus was on independent tasks appropriate for each students abilities but also a little challenging. I have a B.A. in Education and am certified to teach by the State of Illinois.
