I am a writing tutor with over 19 years of experience. I also have tutored subjects in chemistry and science, however, my tutoring and coaching practice has moved to exclusively offering writing tutoring and teen motivation coaching based on demand. I am a writing tutor with over 19 years of experience. I also have tutored subjects in chemistry and science, however, my tutoring and coaching practice has moved to exclusively offering writing tutoring and teen motivation coaching based on demand. I have a year of specialized special education work experience in addition to my over a decade of experience tutoring and coaching specifically with children and adults with ADD, ADHD, Autism, and learning disabilities. Seeing that I can serve my ADHD geniuses with more life and career strategies, I am also a certified Health, Life, and Business Coach from an accredited program at Health Coach Institute, so I do understand the deeper neuroscience behind human behavior. And I am a professional writer, having received a dual degree at Northern Illinois University in Broadcast Journalism and Pre-Med studies, as well as graduated from Second City’s Music Improv Conservatory, and my body of work has included books, published articles on major news publications, and comedy stage and film manuscripts.

I have also noticed that by the time a student gets to me, they may have been struggling with writing for a long time. Sometimes parents have confessed that their students with ADHD struggle with the focus needed to write and finish a paper and parents have on numerous occasions told me that to ensure their child succeeds, they end up writing their papers for them!!

However, students need to learn how to write on their own. As I see it, confidence in one’s writing and understanding one’s writer’s voice leads to better self-esteem, which has a massive impact on one’s life.

I work 100% online now so I am excited to serve families in different time zones! Once we assess fit, via email, or a quick chat, I will then provide a customized link for my available tutoring appointments as I work on one calendar platform to coordinate tutoring, coaching, and media appearances.

I have a Bachelor of Science degree where my curriculum touched on mental health and physical health disorders. I went onto health coaching school where I learned deeper emotional resiliency skills for those with ADHD as well as better strategies for healthy eating to reduce symptoms. My services are a nice compliment to therapy and medication management through your provider and IEP goals because I help your child or you create deeper focus systems. I was trained in how to customize programming for students to create better well-being and emotional goals. I also started out tutoring students with ADHD in writing, chemistry, biology, and physics and I have since been able to get deeper transformation for this client group from additional training when I went back to school to learn design programming skills for individuals and groups of students with ADHD. My tutoring and coaching experience is 10 years and counting so I've refined my results process over the years for maximum impact.

I have done life coaching and business coaching training beyond my health coaching certificates and my Bachelor of Science degree where I have extensive training on doing 360 assessments for adults and adapting career development training exercises for students looking to find the right fit careers for their strengths and talents. So much of the time school curriculum focuses on transforming weaknesses and I believe with career development it's important to lead with strengths. I also have business consulting experience that has helped me coach adult entrepreneurs into having profitable businesses that led to rewarding career outcomes for my clients.

I had clients that were startups who made their first million in revenue after working with me (above industry standards for their prospective fields). I have an avid love for public speaking. I'm an accomplished public speaker and an award winning speech writer. I have written many speeches for numerous events and occasions. I have a Broadcast Journalism degree; I have been a host for public programming, on-camera voice for two TV stations, and on-camera personality at my college's TV station. I found my love for public speaking in elementary school when I was performing at the local community theater in my hometown which eventually grew into a love of public speaking in front of hundreds of people. I love helping potential speakers improve their writing or speaking abilities. I have found that certain theater exercises and writing exercises are very useful for helping potential speakers become more confident in speaking and they enjoy their performance so much more!

I trained at the competitive and industry-standard training program at Second City in music improv where I learned how to write songs, even from a comedic standpoint, and produce original shows. I have my own vocal demo of my work and an original solo show with original music. Although I am a lyricist, I use a composer to help flesh out a full orchestra or multiple instrument backgrounds to the music. I also am a trained singer and know about the business of tradeshows for the touring industry. I'm able to help with the craft of songwriting, how to work with collaborators and manage creative and business relationships, and strategize from a marketing and production perspective how to get your work out into the world touring and monetizing your work. I also am able to help you embrace the skills to learn this as a hobby if you just want to knock it off your bucket list that you wrote a love song for your anniversary and/or sang at an open mic an original song.

I have helped children with special needs in the past. I have advanced special needs certifications and know how to handle IEP goals and manage the environment for optimal learning. I will be available in the summer to take on clients needing extra curriculum structure to help students gear up for the upcoming school year. Please don't hesitate to ask!

Study Skills

My experience with study skills is quite diverse. I have helped both high school and college students with study skills concerning test prep, test anxiety, methods for note taking and memorization, as well as overall performance organization. I have also worked in a special needs classroom; specifically for an alternative school for grades K-12. I applied study skills through the mediums of flash cards, visual schedules, visual aides, and repetition activities to name a few. I believe that to help a child succeed in study skills is to recognize and adapt to each child's learning style beyond just the visual, audio, and hands-on techniques. I believe what makes a great tutor is by helping the student not only learn the material, but also build his/her self-confidence with the material. This enables the student to reduce text anxiety and to enjoy school. As a professional, I believe in continuing education and to keep up with new trends in teaching, I'm currently seeking a collegiate certification in teaching students (at all ages levels) with dyslexia, ADD/ADHD, and other learning disabilities. I received a dual degree from NIU in broadcast journalism and pre-med studies. I also trained at Second City and have taken many filmmaker workshops. I have a production company of my own where I edit and make comedic marketing videos, build animation videos from script to storyboard, and work on comedy shorts. I'm experienced in helping you create excellent editing and story formatting so that your work achieves its business or creative goal outcome. I personally have put my youtube channel on pause so I can focus on other social media production projects but I am familiar with the processes it takes to expose your work and make money from it. I have honed systems to help you stay productive and can coach you through the creative and business struggles in launching this as a hobby or as a monetization opportunity.

I continue to master existing and new writing styles on a regular basis. For example, I'm an award winning writer, a published writer, a journalist with a career working for local TV stations and newspaper since I was 17, and a technical writer. I love writing projects that include blogging, writing articles, and grant writing projects. I've also written award winning essays (and have also helped others write award winning essays) some of which have received monetary awards. I love what I do. I have a track record for improving my students' and clients' writing. I also have helped adults learn to write. I have a track record for improving essays for competition, scholarships, academic courses, and/or scholarships. With my background, I have found that writing is both a science and an art. I love what I do!

No more tears

The tears are gone! It has been a long emotional road to find the right writing coach. Due to ADHD and other factors, writing assignments brought on extreme anxiety for my daughter. There were many tears despite her genuine effort. Jennifer’s expertise and experience combined with gentle encouragement and patience was exactly what my daughter needed to move forward on challenging writing assignments. I am so relieved to have found the right support for her past and future writing assignments.

Out of all my tutoring subjects, I love tutoring chemistry the most! I apologize if there was a misunderstanding: I have on record that there was a no show and I have to prioritize clients that are serious about their progress as I usually have a waiting list. I sincerely care about my client's progress and only work with clients who want to see results. Every case is different and I am compassionate when things come up, but I was up front about my policies.
