Hi! I have over 20 years of experience as a tutor, including teaching young children and students with disabilities. Although I've specialized in math and the sciences, I also tutor students in Modern Greek, Russian, essays, grammar, and presentations. My goal when tutoring is to not only increase the student's grades, but to also teach them how to independently approach the topic, so that they may apply the same methods outside of tutoring sessions and later in their academic career. I focus on broadening the student's knowledge of the topic beyond the scope of the class, including critical information that is often edited from curriculums but is useful for truly understanding the topic, as well as making it interesting.

A little about me: I graduated from Mt. Sinai with my master's degree in Systems Biology with a thesis in oncoendocrinology and metabolomics. I have my bachelor's degree from Johns Hopkins University in Molecular and Cellular Biology, with a minor in Russian language. I'm a native speaker of Greek and studied Russian for eight years. I scored in the 94th percentile on the MCAT exam and 98th percentile on the SAT. I can tutor for the MCAT, SAT, biology, chemistry, Russian, Greek, math, public speaking, English grammar, essay proofreading, reading skills, and the majority of standard high school courses.

Excellent, dynamic, smart tutor!

Marilyn has been tutoring my daughter on the ACT science & math sections. She is EXCELLENT!! She knows the material and can explain wrong answers. She also connects material to outside knowledge and makes it more relevant. Additionally, she understands the big picture and gives great test taking strategy. This includes tips on preparing for everything from nerves, material, to timing. Finally, she is engaging and dynamic and this makes for lively tutoring sessions! My daughter is working on the ACT but she has even more experience with the SAT and I'm sure she would be just as excellent as a tutor for that test.
