Hi, I’m Nika! I’m currently pursuing a BFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and I’ve been creating art my entire life. I specialize in teaching portraiture and figure drawing, working with students to build and broaden their drawing skillsets. This involves developing the ability to achieve a likeness as well as proportionality and anatomical correctness.
I also do art critiques apart from lessons, and I highly encourage you to send me a PDF of your work if you would like...
I also do art critiques apart from lessons, and I highly encourage you to send me a PDF of your work if you would like constructive feedback for larger projects, out of class projects, or any other pieces you’re working on. I will send you back an annotated version highlighting points of strength and weakness, and (most crucially!) feedback based on your personal artistic goals. I believe that honest critique is a very necessary part of artistic development, and so I encourage all of my students to engage in these critiques.
I am an Art Director/Instructor at the Jewish Community Center (JCC) Greater-Boston Camp Kaleidoscope, where I develop curriculum and teach a wide age range of students.
I have teaching experience in both one-on-one and group-class settings.
Beyond my undergraduate classes, I’ve taken related coursework at Boston University’s Visual Arts Summer Institute program, Rhode Island School of Design’s Advanced Program for High School Students, Newton Community Education (for figurative and portraiture classes), and Danforth Museum. I have been awarded the Outstanding New Artist Award at SAIC ArtBASH, and have received a Gold Key in the portfolio category of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Additionally I have received a certificate of recognition from the College of Visual and Performing Arts at UMass Dartmouth and an honorable mention from the New Art Association Scholarship Awards.
Whether you’re interested in portraiture, figure drawing, live lessons, asynchronous critiques, or a mix of all these categories, I’d love to work with you and help you improve your drawing skillset!
