Hello! My name is Mallory, and I am a sixth year classroom teacher with extensive experience teaching and tutoring in social studies. In addition to teaching college preparatory social studies courses for six years, I have taught Advanced Placement social studies courses for four years now with excellent CollegeBoard scores (earning 90% and 100% pass rates at the class level!) I have experience teaching and tutoring in both AP Human Geography and AP World History. All six students whom I tutored in AP World History over the course of the 2023-2024 school year earned 4s and 5s on their CollegeBoard exam! In my tenure as a teacher I have received positive feedback from students, parents, and administrators on my genial, energetic approach to teaching as well as my friendly disposition and interpersonal abilities. I very much enjoy teaching students to write effectively for free response questions and document-based questions in order to maximize their scores. I have worked primarily with freshman and sophomore students in a formal classroom setting, but have also taught and tutored juniors and seniors.
My tutoring approach can be best described as that of a "warm demander", placing high expectations on students while balancing these expectations with genuine and appropriate care for their wellbeing. I believe that a blended approach which combines rigorous instruction with warmth and good humor makes for a comfortable learning environment and also maximizes results.
I hold a B.A. in International Affairs and Spanish from Mercer University. Though I did not earn a formal degree in teaching, I was thoroughly mentored during my first year as an educator by experienced teachers and have been recognized for my abilities through student-nominated awards. I have tutored in one-on-one and small group settings in social studies for eight years (since college, where I held a TA position for the introductory course in International Affairs).
I look forward to scheduling a lesson with you!
