I am a twenty year resident of Mystic, CT, with a BS Mech Engineering from Virginia Tech. As an engineer with IBM, I completed my MS, also in ME and Optimization Math.

My professional work involved machine design, computer simulation, and optimization (a lot of Math!). I love Math, and the Sciences, and have extensive applied experience. My professional work involved machine design, computer simulation, and optimization (a lot of Math!). I love Math, and the Sciences, and have extensive applied experience. This helps me to find more and varied ways to explain the foundational aspects of Math and Science in problem solving. I have thousands of hours of tutoring success in all of the Maths, including Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, and Differential Equations - at AP, Honors, IB and College level. My tutoring also includes SAT Prep, ACT Prep, and TEAS prep. I have taught multiple classes, and have completed hundreds of hours in personal test prep with students. I have exceptional Writing, Literature, English Grammar, Language skills, and am a voracious reader!

I am a skilled teacher. With IBM, I taught engineers how to use analytic software to solve problems. To quickly understand a unique design challenge, solve the issue, and communicate it was my forte. I have been told that I have a special skill at being able to explain complex ideas with simplicity, tailored to the audience's level.

I volunteer teaching CCD for youth at my Church; it is a unique learning environment - and very rewarding. In teaching and coaching swimmers - youth, adults, competitive and special needs - I am very patient, structured, committed, and flexible.
I am deeply committed to the success of my clients. If a student needs help understanding a difficult concept, I will go to great lengths to understand his or her knowledge set to work within that environment to lead the student to clarity. I will try dozens of ways to get an idea across, to facilitate comprehension. I can help with study skills, test taking skills, reading comprehension, writing, and vocabulary. I love kids and nothing is more gratifying to me than to give a student the gift of learning!

As a mechanical engineer, I am a proficient user of various softwares and computer platforms. I worked for IBM for 18 years, using a variety of their software applications - including Lotus Notes, VMWare, WebSphere, and engineering application software like ANSYS, CATIA Elfini, ABAQUS, and ENOVIA. I have also used (and debugged) the AIX software set. In my daily engineering work, I use extensively Microsoft products such as EXCEL, WORD, and POWERPOINT. I have set up new computers, loaded (and debugged) software applications and user tools, such as Skype, virus protection and Media software. I have installed (and debugged!) many peripheral components, such as printers, wireless pointers, hard drives, recording devices, etc. While I am not Microsoft certified, I have managed my own suite of computers and software tools for many years. My computer knowledge is general and quite current. I scored 100% on both the Word and Excel tests, completing each in less than 2 minutes.

I have more than 20 years experience, primarily in the area of Aerospace and Defense, with a patent and five patent disclosures in the area of Machine Design. My MS thesis was concerned with Optimization maths for electronic packaging components.

As an engineer, I use Math - in all its forms - on an everyday basis. I have studied advanced Maths, and applied them through my Masters level Engineering classes. My qualification tests for WyzAnt Maths were all perfect scores. PreCalculus is an introduction to some of the advanced Calculus topics of derivatives and rate change. I am confident that - with my teaching skills and experience with the more advanced subject matter, that I am qualified to tutor pre Calculus.

Amazing Tutor!

Melita is patient, caring and goes the extra mile to make sure our daughter has a full understanding of the concept being taught. We got lucky with Melita. Melita supported my son throughout his sophomore year in High School. She mainly tutored him in pre-calculus and preparation for the ACT but also helped with his AP stats and AP Physics.
