Thank you for taking the time to view my tutoring profile. I am a passionate instructor of writing and student of multiple disciplines - I love exploring myriad subjects, learning new skills, and sharing this knowledge with others. I've earned an MFA in Creative Writing-Fiction and a BA in Psychology while also studying English & Textual Studies and Graphic Design.
Currently, I work as a teaching professor in a local, prestigious university's Writing Program. Previously I've taught freshman composition in a Boston-based college First Year Writing Program -- both an introduction to college writing and a research-based genre awareness course. For two years, I tutored as a Calderwood Fellow in the Writing Center of a high school in the Boston Public School System. I helped many of these students, and students from WyzAnt, prepare and revise their college applications. Before returning to graduate school, I spent two summers working with preK-5th graders as an AmeriCorps Youth Literacy Worker in Upstate New York.
While in graduate school, I worked as a reader and, briefly, the assistant Fiction Editor for an acclaimed student-run literary magazine. I also taught fiction (and previously nonfiction) in EmersonWRITES, a program through which students in the Boston Public School System can take creative writing workshops in a college setting.
I was a graphic designer in Emerson College's FYWP and am currently the Production and Design editor for a journal of undergraduate writing at my current institution. In the past, I have worked as a freelance designer and photographer, and have been the marketing coordinator at an architecture firm.
I believe in life-long education, student-centered teaching, and collaborative learning. It is my belief that communication in all of its forms -- verbal, written, visual, etc. -- is of utmost importance. This is why I am dedicated to the task of helping others become skilled readers and producers of communication.
