Learning is a daily, lifelong process. If embraced, it can foster a fulfilling life, one with many choices regarding career, family, and personal attainment. I discovered that at an early age and feel that I have been a beneficiary. That’s my approach as a tutor: listen carefully and understand my student; respect their learning style; and ignite (or maintain) their passion for learning while helping them achieve their goals. Leaven it all with some fun.

Throughout my career, I have had the benefit of great mentor/tutors and have always tried to do the same for others. Formally, I have taught students at the high school and college level in math and history (Rutgers University - PhD, 1988) and advised many others informally as a banking and investment professional (CFA [Chartered Financial Analyst] since 1994). In 2014 I became a math tutor, mentor and substitute teacher in the Denver Public School system and an historical adviser for a national high school competition focused on the U.S. Constitution. In 2015, I started a tutoring service and have been working with middle, high school and college students.

Preparing for standardized admissions tests (SAT, SSAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT) requires a special approach, one that balances the mastery of relevant content with specific test taking strategies. I call it Substance and Strategy and my tutoring focuses on finding that balance to give my students the TOOLS and the CONFIDENCE to improve and succeed.

I have had a passion for math for as long as I can remember and have used it extensively as an engineering student and in the financial services industry. I have tutored many friends and work associates informally for years and took it up formally in 2014 in the local school system, where I continue to do so.

During more than 25 years of business development in finance I have continually educated clients, prospects and associates, explaining complex concepts and translating industry terminology for non-specialist audiences. Mentoring and tutoring have been a way of life.

The CFA program is an extraordinary educational experience, relying extensively on self discipline and and, often, self instruction. That approach served me well when I completed the program in 3 years and that attention to a comprehensive, detailed plan is the foundation for my CFA tutoring.

My goal is to assist you attain your goals, first by getting to know what you are trying to achieve and understanding the the way you learn most effectively. Then we will create a clear plan, with measurable milestones, and an implementation schedule to meet your objectives.

Very Helpful.

I am hesitant to write a good review, as others will learn how great Jim is and I will lose my edge! Jim is excellent at understanding your needs and how to bring complex topics to simple ideas. He can quickly diagnose what you are doing wrong, and add value.

Jim is a great help with all financial aspects!

Jim and I reviewed core financial concepts and worked through problem sets for practice. Jim is great at explaining financial projects and the obvious and behind the scenes steps that are involved. I would recommend meeting with Jim.

Great tutor

Jim was great in helping me study for the GRE! I came to him with about a week left to study, and he absolutely helped me. He understood my strengths and listened to my concerns and helped me focus my skills appropriately. He also was very flexible with his time with me, which I appreciated.
