Teaching Experience
I am currently a 1st-6th grade Reading Intervention Teacher in the Ontario-Montclair School District. I have been working in this position for the last 9 years. I received my Masters in Literacy in 2019, and I love teaching young children how to read. I have tutored many students individually.

In addition to teaching, I also worked at a Kumon Math and Reading tutoring center for over three years. I love helping children succeed in school, and I am very patient. I have worked one-on-one with students and with small groups of students. I have tutored hundreds of students as young as pre-K all the way through the eighth grade, and I am very passionate about helping others. I have many resources and strategies to help your child succeed. Please feel free to message me.

Education
I received my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from Cal Poly Pomona in June 2015. I became certified to teach in the elementary grades by completing coursework designed to prepare me to become an elementary school teacher. For every elementary subject, I was instructed in how to make the student's material meaningful to them.

After completing the courses for the credential program and passing various subject specific tests, I was able to practice my teaching in the classroom. I worked with highly qualified teachers in Chino Hills and was given the opportunity to teach with them and to also teach independently for two weeks. From September to March, I taught in a kindergarten classroom at Country Springs Elementary. I was then placed in a sixth grade classroom at Eagle Canyon Elementary in March, and I completed my student teaching in June. By working in both of these classrooms, I was able to see the progress students are expected to make as they move into the higher grades.

CBEST

CBEST

I am qualified to teach test preparation for the CBEST because I just took it this July and I was able to pass it on my first try. I received a score of 60 on the math section, a 50 on the reading section, and a 47 on the writing section. I also completed the test an hour and a half early. In order to pass the CBEST, you must have a combined total of 123. My combined score was a 157. I have tutored a CBEST student in preparation for the math section and her score went from a 28 to a 38 after only three lessons.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

My Liberal Studies major at Cal Poly Pomona has given me the necessary background and skills to become an elementary school teacher. I have taken math classes at Cal Poly Pomona that are from a teacher's viewpoint. I am currently enrolled in classes that will go toward earning my teaching credential. I have worked with students between the ages of 4 to 10 in both math and reading through one on one instruction and group instruction. I have tutored many students at the elementary level. I have taught and tutored a three year old, two second graders, four third graders, one fourth grader, four sixth graders, one seventh grader, and one eighth grader. I have a very positive relationship with both my students and their parents. I like to have feedback from parents and be informed of how my students are doing in school. Many of my parents have told me about the heightened confidence they see in their children. When I tutor students, I like to bring in extra material for them so they can really understand whatever they are working on. I have many reading books, worksheets, and flashcards that I provide for my students.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I have tutored high school students in math outside of the tutoring company I work at. I have taught students between the ages of 4 to 10 through both one on one instruction and group instruction. I have also taken classes at Cal Poly Pomona that include Mathematical Concepts for Elementary School Teachers: Number Systems, Elementary Mathematics from an Advanced Viewpoint: Algebra, and Elementary Mathematics from an Advanced Viewpoint: Geometry. I am currently tutoring a second grader in adding and subtracting, two third graders in multiplication and division, and two sixth graders in pre-algebra. I have also tutored an eighth grader in math before.
Phonics

Phonics

I am qualified to teach phonics because I have worked at a reading tutoring center for three years and have been able to help students between ages three to ten improve their reading skills. I taught a three year old to recognize all of the letters of the alphabet out of order and we are currently working on understanding all letter sounds. I use a lot of worksheets and repetition so students can recall what they have learned very quickly. I also like to use hands on activities and games.
Reading

Reading

I am qualified to tutor students in reading because I have worked at a reading tutoring center for almost three years. I have helped students learn to read by working with them through both one on one and group instruction. I have worked with reading students between the ages of three to 13. I really enjoy teaching students in the lower grades and seeing them grow from learning their ABCs, to knowing letter sounds, and then blending sounds to form words. Each of these steps is important for students to master so they can form a strong foundation and confidence in reading.
Study Skills

Study Skills

I am qualified to teach study skills because I have always been a very good student in school and have been able to maintain a high grade point average. I have learned how to manage my time and how to study for tests. I have never turned in a late assignment as I know my limitations and how to distribute my time to the tasks that need to be completed.

Extremely patient and able to connect with our son

Megan A. is an outstanding tutor. She is very patient with our son and knows exactly how to get through to him when explaining concepts. She has the ability to "connect" in a way that, as parents, we are unable to. It shows in his understanding of the work and in the test scores he receives. Megan is very flexible in arranging her time to tutor our son and is very responsive via text. She will work with our son on his homework and bring supplemental worksheets to ensure he understands all they are going going to review. Megan is a pleasure to have tutoring our son.

Patient and helpful Cbest prep

Megan was very patient and helped review my wrong answers. She offered assistance through difficult problems while still making sure I understood the material on my own

Re-building my math skills

Megan helped me review for the Cbest exam. She is very knowledgeable and patient with me as it has been a long time since I have had to do any real math. I feel confident that she will be able to prepare me for the Math portion of the exam.

Kind and patient

Megan works very well with my daughter. Every week Megan is creating new lesson plans to compliment the things she struggles with in math. Megan is on time and willing to stay longer when needed.

My kids (2 boys) and I are happy with Megan. They seems enjoying the lessons everyday. She brought in the helpful side work sheets for the kids beside my provided books. She is gentle and patient. Now, I have more time for myself and family and the kids enjoy tutoring!
