While working on my undergraduate degree, I tutored Chemistry and really enjoyed it. At various times over the past 6 years, I have taught a Biology activity course at Cal Poly Pomona and also tutored students in the San Marino, South Pasadena and Arcadia area. I really enjoy tutoring as well as teaching because I have always had a passion for learning and like to share what I know with others. It is especially rewarding when I see my students understand material that they once found challenging. I have a strong base in Inorganic Chemistry, Biology, Genetics, Molecular Bio, Algebra (I & II), Geometry, and proofreading.
I am very detail oriented, patient and can explain things multiple different ways to help my students conceptualize the topic better. Every student has a different way of looking at things and learning them and it is my job to identify where the disconnect is, know how to bring them back on track and present the material so that it resonates with them the best. Due to my experience, I can also identify potential problem areas in my subjects and highlight those areas with my students as we go along. If needed, I assign homework or practice problems as a way of strengthening the material that we went over. Thank you and I look forward to meeting you and helping you or your children achieve their highest academic potential. Gizelle has been the perfect Algebra 1-2 tutor for my 9th grade son. She is an exceptional math tutor who managed to zone in on my son's weaknesses immediately. She was able to explain his struggles patiently where my son could understand. Then she provided him with similar additional questions to work on to assure he understood how to answer them on his own. Gizelle cared so much that she went over and beyond her call of duty as a tutor. She met and spoke with my son's Math teacher to learn this teacher's teaching method and to see where my son's breakdown was on his prior math tests. I was very lucky to have her as my son's math tutor. I HIGHLY recommend her.
Gizelle did offer my daughter different ways of understanding and approaching the various rules for Chemistry vs what she is being taught in school. Having the one on one time and a fresh perspective seemed to help. Gizelle is patient, pleasant and relatable which makes learning a “not so easy” subject more tolerable.
Gizelle is a terrific tutor! She has a pleasant, optimistic personality and is very patient and encouraging. She explains things very well. I highly recommend her.
Gizelle was very knowledgable and thorough and my daughter really liked her. Look forward to working with her in the future.
Gizelle is very patient and detail. She helped my son on Algebra 2 and Biotech. My son is all caught up in his classes now. I definitely recommend her!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received the highest A's in Genetics, Human Genetics and Advanced Genetics at Cal Poly Pomona. I also helped some of my classmates who were struggling in my Genetics class. Currently, I do genetic, molecular and developmental research for my Masters degree in which we design two and three factor genetic crosses using C. elegans as the model organism.
