I am a lecturer in Materials Eng. at Cal Poly SLO. I teach Intro. Mat. Eng. courses, as well as junior and senior level courses in polymers. I spent one year as a Visiting Asst. Professor in Chemistry at the Claremont Colleges. In this role, I taught Basics of Chem. I and II and Enviro. Chem. I have a PhD in Chem. Eng. at the University of Southern California. I taught an undergrad course in polymers at USC and have been a TA for grad transport classes, chem. eng, courses, chem. labs, and undergrad chem. courses. I taught a research elective at Harvey Mudd College and have mentored several students on research projects in computational and synthetic chem. I have worked as an Academic Excellence Tutor and a Computer Science tutor at HMC for various undergraduate courses.
I love teaching and have worked independently to develop course curriculum incorporating modelling software into chem. and environmental science courses. I tend to utilize relatable analogies and active learning methods in my tutoring practice. I also focus on study skills to help students learn how to learn efficiently and understand underlying concepts.
I have served as a judge in the LA County Science Fair. I also have competed in Science Fair, History Day, Mock Trial, and Science Olympiad.
I provide essay prep advice for undergrad and grad admissions, including funding applications. I have also provided fellowship review and guidance for the NSF GRFP applications, most of which are successful.
The math classes required at HMC are equivalent to a math minor at most schools. I have taken several multivariable and D.E. courses at both the undergrad and grad level. I have also tutored high school calculus for several people and am familiar with the course content at high school and undergrad levels.
I look forward to meeting you and to helping you engage in subjects that I am passionate about and believe should be accessible to all students!
