I am a lover of computer science, and a huge proponent of the power of extracurricular tutoring. I have helped tutor in elementary school children as well as fellow computer science majors in college. These experiences have influenced me in many ways, from teaching me patience with students to developing my own abilities in various aspects of computer science.
I also have a background in the arts as a theatrical lighting designer, so you won't be stuck with someone who can only engage on the computer front. Recently, I traveled the world for almost 7 months, and the greatest experience I had was the incredible learning and teaching that can happen between complete strangers and how it helps to grow both of their worldview. I will forever keep with me the tenet that teaching is one of the most powerful endeavors that a person can engage in.
In college, I went above and beyond to further my learning of computer science, and the most impactful way I achieved this was through tutoring and extracurricular learning. I helped three separate students grapple with subjects ranging from basic programming to data structure algorithms. For two of these students, I was unpaid by the computer science department, but decided it was a greater good for them and myself to engage in this learning opportunity. On top of tutoring, I was also a grader for an introductory computer science class. That experience helped teach me how to give helpful feedback that improved their ability to problem solve and code. I was a great student in college, and a professor approached me about the position, which I jumped into without hesitation.
After graduating, I continued my own learning in computer science by teaching myself HTML, CSS, and Javascript to create my own website. I am an artist at heart, and so I saw an opportunity to promote myself on the internet, practice and learn new programming skills, and get my creative juices flowing with the design. Overall I feel like I am a great tutor because of my educational background as well
