My name is Spurgeon Rice, a 28 year old pianist, who has lived in his hometown of Los Angeles since he was born. At the age of 15, I became fascinated with music and soon started my Classical music education and training. I found music to be an increasing obsession, and decided to devote myself to it professionally. I have a Master of Music in Piano Performance from California State University Los Angeles, where I studied with Dr. Robert Ward, who studied in Vienna and whose expertise is in Viennese Classical music. I have studied a wide range of repertoire from J.S. Bach to Olivier Messiaen. I've performed for Junior Chamber Music twice, was selected as a finalist in the 2014 Southern California Junior Bach Festival, was chosen to perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto in G major K.453 in Bratislava, and have performed numerous ensemble and solo concerts at California State University, Los Angeles. I teach the fundamentals of a Classical music education and at the same time cater to the student's interest, whether it be Pop, Jazz, Hip Hop or anything in between. My passion is to engage my students, foster a love for music within them, and help them on their journey of discovering their self through music.
