My high school achievements earned me a Full Ride scholarship to Loyola Marymount University. There, I studied Film and Television Production while continuing to develop myself across disciplines by participating in their Honors program, from which I graduated Magna Cum Laude.
Throughout College I volunteered with 826LA's unique after school tutoring and literacy program for a few hours, several nights a week. I helped K-8 students with math, science, history, and English homework, but I also helped administer the program's signature literacy program--wherein students learn about many different forms of writing (from short story, to poetry, essay, persuasive, letter-writing, and more) and develop their own projects for each unit. As a (formerly aspiring) professional TV writer, I loved getting the chance to help students understand how to find their voice on the page--how to learn to express the feelings and ideas that they already have.
I've also tutored with a well know learning company, helping one on one and in group settings in K-12 with Math, Science, and Reading homework while guiding students through their student-specific math and reading program. Also through them I have aided in the administration of classroom activities, and assisted students with their work during class time.
I was a high achieving student in high school and I've transformed that experience into a skillset that helps my students understand the material on a fundamental level. I have studied how students learn best and apply that to my conversations in a deliberate manner. I aim to help students make the important connections on their own, while still providing them with enough patience and support to keep us moving forward. I am someone who loves to understand how things work, I believe that to be a good teacher one must be a good learner. I have not forgotten that perspective and I hope that we may strengthen your skills so that you feel effortlessly ahead.
