I've taught ELA and math at two LASUD elementary schools and one LAUSD high school over the last two school years. My experience comes primarily from tutoring within a small group, but I also tutor within classroom setting and one-on-one. I start from where the student is and build their confidence with repetition, finding they grow exponentially when given care, patience, and freedom to express frustration or confusion. I emphasize wrong answers are not bad, but clear directions on how to improve. The only wrong answer is not trying. I treat my students with empathy and respect, consider their feelings and moods as we progress. I ultimately get them to the point where they feel encouraged and excited to do the work (at least as much one can about homework, haha). My students often get to the point where THEY are teaching the class.
