¡Buenas (as they say in Panama)! My name is Cane, and I am a freelance filmmaker and language enthusiast! Though my usual occupation is in film, languages are my second passion — I was set to be an etymologist before pursuing art!
I have been giving private beginner's Spanish lessons since 2017 to college students, friends, and family. I am now seeking to share my knowledge on an even greater scale by tutoring students and lifelong learners on Wyzant!
Alongside private teaching, I have served as a translator for English and Latin American Spanish speakers both personally and professionally. In Panama, where I spent 14 years of my childhood and where my love for languages began, I started volunteering at my church and translated for English speaking missionaries on various excursions. After receiving my B.F.A. in Filmmaking at UNC School of the Arts, I entered the entertainment industry and had the opportunity to translate Becky G's lines (uncredited) from English to LATAM Spanish on her 2022 Super Bowl TV Spot "Superior Bowl | Golden". For four months, I served as the merchandising manager for a prop house named Gil & Roy Props (clients included Beyoncé, Pokémon, and Warner Bros.) and acted as the lead liaison between our English-speaking and Spanish-speaking employees.
I would love to work with elementary through college students who need extra help with their Spanish coursework or AP Spanish prep, as well as students who are learning English. I am also here for the lifelong learners who like languages, experiencing new cultures, and exploring the world! If you're curious, I have traveled to Chile, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Peru, and Colombia (I have also been to Mexico, but I visited while on a cruise trip; it deserves a re-visit!)
If this sounds like you or you are the parent of a child in a language course, feel free to reach out with any and all questions, and I will respond as soon as possible! ¡Hasta pronto!
