Welcome, I'm Kay! I graduated with a Master of Architecture degree. In college, I learned that if a subject was difficult to understand, it did not mean I could not learn it. Instead, I needed to practice with someone that could explain the content to me by breaking it down into smaller, more specific pieces of information I clearly understood. Working with tutors like that always made the material more understandable and engaging. Quickly, my architectural coursework became more fun to develop and present. As a tutor, I aim to give students the extent of clarification they need concisely and creatively.

I have six years of experience teaching BIM, CAD, and Adobe design software to classmates, co-workers, and architectural firm owners. I worked directly with firm owners who needed additional assistance implementing projects in a BIM platform. That included establishing company templates and translating office graphics standards from 2D AutoCAD into 3D BIM software, namely ArchiCAD. In the school setting, I assisted students interested in learning ArchiCAD with developing step-by-step strategies for creating diagrams and floor plans in the program to get accustomed to the BIM environment without overwhelming them with too much information.

What I particularly appreciate about Indesign is its user-friendly interface, which is very similar to Photoshop and Illustrator. I have a bachelor's degree in Architectural studies from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee and completed my Master’s degree at California State Polytechnic University. Before enrolling in graduate school, I worked in architectural offices for eleven years. During that time, I developed my construction documentation skills using BIM programs such as ArchiCAD, Bently Architecture, and Revit. My passion for architecture and BIM documentation led me to manage and train colleagues at work and school. I currently serve as a Campus Representative for Graphisoft Corporation, promoting the use of ArchiCAD and providing student support.

I have had the opportunity to work closely with firm owners as they transition their companies from 2D AutoCAD to 3D ArchiCAD. During this time, I have coordinated the translation of office graphic standards between the two software programs, which has required a deep understanding of differences in AutoCAD settings, such as pen tables and layers. I then import this information into ArchiCAD's BIM platform as pen sets and layer combinations. This enables firms to utilize 2D AutoCAD for appropriate projects and 3D ArchiCAD for other projects, creating a seamless importing and exporting process. As a result, I have a strong command of both programs and am well-equipped to help students that work with both.

During my undergraduate studies, I honed my 3D modeling skills using Building Information Modeling (BIM) software such as Microstation and Revit. After graduation, I worked as a designer in architectural firms for seven years, creating photorealistic images of buildings for client presentations. My work involved 3D modeling of single-family and multi-family residences, interior furniture and accessories, and interior and exterior architectural elements. I used a variety of software, including Sketchup and Blender. Using different programs, I became familiar with their capabilities and learned how to combine them to create the best results. Sketchup is particularly user-friendly, with simple commands and tablet compatibility, which makes it easy to use on the go. Additionally, generating renderings with Enscape can take less than a minute.
