I was raised in the Coachella Valley where the heat of the summer is blistering, but the other nine months of the year are blissful. I attended a private school, St. Theresa, from first to eighth grade, graduated at the top of my class from Indio High School, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in both English Writing and Government with a minor in Spanish from Georgetown University. My parents always emphasized the importance of education and hard work. I earned academic scholarships that financed my college education. It is through these experiences that I not only gained academic knowledge, but a passion for education. I carry this same attitude of diligence into my tutoring where I offer the support and tools necessary to enable each student to achieve their academic goals.
I began my now ten year professional career as a private tutor when I volunteered to help underprivileged children. I instantly knew that I enjoyed teaching students how to grasp difficult concepts. My philosophy as a tutor is to teach my students effectively in terms they understand, build a rapport with them where I can act as a tutor and mentor, ensure improvement and mastering of problem areas, and aid them in achieving academic success while instilling confidence in them that will serve them in their future endeavors. I do this by meeting with the student's parent(s) and listening to their child's needs, assessing the student's current abilities, and developing an individualized plan to suit the student's style of learning and goals. I will give updates to the parent(s) and communicate the student's progress while always being open to feedback. I have had great success tutoring all age groups from first grade through college levels in various subjects, although my primary work has been with high school students. I can travel to your home or arrange tutoring sessions at a public library.
My areas of expertise include English writing, test preparation for the ACT, SAT, and TOEFL, working with both international and home sch
