My name is Jack and I am a teaching credential candidate studying to become an elementary school teacher! I currently work as a substitute teacher while tutoring part-time. I tutor for all grades K-12, and have several years of experience tutoring high school and elementary school math. I also have spent time tutoring elementary school reading, writing, and spelling.
Although I was a Business Administration major during my undergraduate studies, my passion for working with students led me to become a teacher. I have really enjoyed being a substitute teacher and working with students in all grades K-12. Through this role, I have plenty of experience working in a classroom setting, and through my tutoring experience, I have much experience working one-on-one with students. My teaching credential program also requires observation hours, so I have spent about 75 hours observing master teachers and learning about their teaching methods and strategies.
I believe that inquiry-based instruction and collaboration are strong ways for students to learn and stay engaged in the classroom. When tutoring, I ask thought-provoking questions to my students to help guide their thinking instead of giving them the answers to their questions. I think it is powerful for a student's learning when they can arrive at an answer on their own. Tutoring is a way for students to build confidence in their learning and be proactive about their education. I am excited for this opportunity to work with different students!
