I was having a hard time writing essays and prepping for the GRE's writing portion until Anne helped me critically think and write better. She is brilliant! I highly recommend her!
Anne always teach longer hours than the schedule time and very patient to my daughter. My daughter is not a fast learner so Anne is a good fit for her. My daughter is very happy to go to her class every Sunday.
Anne did not meet my expectations. Took too long to proofread each sentence and had very little knowledge of APA format.
I love my class time with Anne. Time flies! Gradually, I have improved my writing skills, since we started to work together. She is very prompt with her corrections. We always exceed the one hour time frame and she never concludes my lessons without carefully going over my compositions.
We are so happy that we found Anne K. She has been such a big help for my Daughter in her high school English. Anne is very knowledgeable and such a kind person. She is really concerned about my daughter's learning. She helped my daughter to expand her interest in reading and this has helped her to greatly improve in English Literature.
now my daughter has been getting A's!.
Anne is keeping my daughter engaged as she prepares to take the SAT again. She is learning new writing techniques and enjoys the tutoring sessions. Thank you!
Very patient, kind, and knowledgeable during the tutoring! Very caring about every single student she has. Thanks for your information.
She has great information to share. Her explanations are clear and helpful. Ms. K. knows how to prepare one for the PSAT.
You are quite welcome! I enjoy helping students and seeing them improve -- Keep up your efforts and the SAT will be that much easier for you.
Took less time than I expected for tutor to read, help me revise, & then proofread my college essay! Thanks!
Anne is very prompt with replying to her messages and does her best to address all my questions. Her edits are always very detailed and she catches little things that I would normally overlook. I can tell she put a lot of time into checking for grammar errors and I greatly appreciate it!
Anne is a great teacher. My weakness is in writing and speaking. She was trying find some books for me to practice. she was very patient to correct my mistakes. Thanks a lot.
Anne was great for my 7th grade son. She was very patient, and took the time to figure out his learning style, so he had a great customized writing lesson, and really improved his writing technique.
Worked on my two term papers for Writing 111. Quite knowledgeable, and great to work with. Positive, too! Got A's on both my papers and passed the class with honors. Thanks a bunch!
Anne is a great tutor. She has a way of covering lots of material in a way that is comprehensive, assuring, and kind. Her overview, followed by details to be aware of, is thorough. During her presentation, Anne answered my questions without skipping a beat. The witty way that she gives hints and reminders to reinforce what she covers takes the edge off of test-taking anxiety.
I had terrible grammar and she really helped me to turn around and writing. She was wonderful to work with and would recommend in a heart beat!
I've been working with Ms. Anne since March 2010 and she really helped me to improve my writing skills for the TOEFL exam.I made a great progress by working with her and strongly recommend her.
She knows ESL students' weakness in writing. When I ask a question, she provides multiple examples instantly to help my understanding. She also gives me a lot of useful strategies for creative writing.
Anne helped me to grasp the vocabulary that was so crucial for taking the Verbal section of the GRE. Anne also helped me with my personal essay for applying to graduate schools. She was extremely patient and helpful.
I really enjoyed the lesson today. Anne is a great teacher. She even like a doctor who can diagnose my problem and tells me how to fix that. She is the right one I am looking for help for a long time. I am so excited. Thanks for this website.
She also is a nice teacher. She can adjust the teaching pace so well that student can always concentrate into the lesson. I think the time we spend together is worthy.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have tutored several students successfully through the CBEST Exam. In most cases, she or he had unsuccessfully attempted the exam, and more than once! Since all my lessons are tailored specifically to each individual, I look for "missing pieces" of the puzzle in a student's knowledge.Quite often, I find that I should solve students' grammar confusion. Other times, I must review writing techniques, such as pre-writing, bubble charts, outlines, and so forth. I can get right down to business, uncover students' weak areas, offer constructive advice, & confirm strengths. Writing sample papers & then my detailed corrections are the key to improving scores and then passing this Exam.
I come to CBEST preparation from a very strong background in traditional grammar: I have taught for the SAT for years in either one-on-one tutorials or in small classes of 5-10 students at a time. Again, when I correct any sample essays on typical exam topics, I do so word-for-word, with all punctuation corrected, as no comma is left behind! This technique is quite novel to most students! but they soon rely on my corrections & advice for improvements in their writing. This seems to do the job of getting them through the CBEST.
I have been in Elementary Education for over 17 years in one capacity or another. Working at local schools as a Reading Tutor, I covered Language Arts, especially Reading. First, I discover what specific areas students need to work on -- grammar, usage, reading comp., & writing skills. Usually it's the case that a student is behind the class and needs the missing blanks filled in. Once I teach those, then we continue on, finally staying abreast of any classwork & assignments.
I have also prepared students for the standardized tests, which are challenging. For this age group, primary through middle-school, I've helped many students improve and succeed.
Grammar, or the rules of a language, is really the basis for teaching & learning English these days. Students cannot expect to hear or read correct grammar out in the world. So with my selected texts plus my own grammar hand-outs, I make sure that the information is presented clearly, carefully, & directly.
For tutoring most students for this exam - also called the SSAT - it's best to go through a good workbook. But I also check to see if the student has any gaps in his basic knowledge, such as grammar forms, some Prefixes & Word Roots, etc. As there is now an essay on the exam, students can plan, write, & revise practice papers for me. This seems effective; and of course, whatever students review with me for their exam is quite useful when they start in high school.
The SAT Reading section is basically a comprehension test with repeated types of problems. What I do with a student is identify the problems in the reading passages, explain them, and classify them. Students start to see the possibility of answering correctly more & more often.
For teaching Study Skills, I introduce students to good habits - organized notebooks and written work, keeping a study time-table, sometimes even making sure they have the right school supplies! I look for one good study habit to expand upon. Having tutored in English for over 16 years, I have always, at the same time, explained how to be more efficient and well-organized. A major problem I solve is making sure that students turn in assignments on time. I will email or call them to follow up on this. Often, students need to set up a study place, and sometimes they need more quiet where they do work. In no other area do students show greater variation in their needs and productivity as in Study Skills. We discuss what works and what doesn't, always attempting to increase the possibility of more concentration and out-put.
