Hello, I’m Michelle! I graduated from UC San Diego with both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Biology, earning a GPA of 3.90. Aside from my passion for biological research, I enjoy teaching and tutoring as I find it incredibly rewarding to help students build a deeper understanding of academic subjects and succeed in their classes!
I have 2 years of experience as a tutor and teaching assistant at UC San Diego, where I supported a variety of biology courses, including Genetics, Intro to Biology Lab, and Recombinant DNA Techniques Lab. I’ve led over 300 hours of classroom and one-on-one sessions, working with more than 100 students. In these sessions, I’ve guided students through lecture reviews, practice problems, experimental procedures, and hands-on demonstrations of lab techniques. Additionally, I have worked with younger students, ranging from elementary to high school, in math and science subjects.
In high school, I completed multiple AP courses and earned high scores in Calculus AB and BC, Biology, and Chemistry. I'm happy to support students in a range of math and science subjects, including Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Biology, and Chemistry.
My goal for my students is to focus more on understanding the bigger picture of concepts and less on memorizing facts. From my experience, I’ve found that keeping students engaged is essential, and I do this by asking guiding questions rather than simply giving answers. I also like to work through practice problems together. Since some subjects aren’t always intuitive, I make an effort to explain ideas in different ways and relate them to everyday life. I’m very attentive to my students’ needs, which helps me recognize when they need extra support or when it’s best to give them space to try things on their own.
Thank you for your interest in having me as your tutor! I look forward to working with you and helping you achieve your academic goals. Feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule a lesson!

Math has always been my strong subject. I’ve done well when I took prealgebra and I have taken the AP exams for Calculus AB and BC and earned high scores. Additionally, I have been working with students in prealgebra for a couple of months.
