About Sharon:

I found my knack for tutoring when I was in grade school assisting fellow students with their assignments, as I was always the first one done, and the teacher asked me to use the rest of the time to help my classmates. I was best at math and science, and I particularly enjoyed tutoring math. I attended the Mass Academy of Math and Science, a high school for gifted students.

After years of being a star violin student, my violin teacher asked me to be her teacher's aide at the children's group classes. As she grew older and wanted to spend more time with her family, she sent some of her beginner students to me. I managed a very successful violin teaching business for myself, teaching up to 15 students each week after school. I also taught my own set of group lessons of young students to play for Nursing Homes. I started a chamber group of my best students for special performances at local town fairs.

In college I took up ballroom dancing, and quickly rose to the top levels. I was captain of my ballroom dance team and taught my teammates between our coaching lessons. After college I taught a few ballroom classes here and there at different studios and worked with two other collegiate ballroom dance teams. I have taught social dancers, wedding couples, and competitive dancesport athletes. I am great at choreographing wedding dances to any song of your choice. I have worked with many friends as they prepared for their wedding day.

I am great at reading, writing, and editing. I have worked on a few small newsletters writing articles.

I took French for 7 years, and I went to France for a study abroad program in college. My conversational French is a little rusty, but I can certainly help with basic school book French.

I have references/testimonials for my violin and dance teaching, and I've love to add your testimonial to my collection for Math or Language.

More On Sharon's Subjects:

  • ballroom dancing

I am a gold level ballroom dance competitor. I started dancing on a collegiate ballroom team in 2002, and since then, I have continued my training with top coaches. I attend workshops and seminars to stay up to date with the latest styles and techniques. I used to teach my ballroom dance team at college. Since college, I have worked with two other college teams. I've taught various group classes at small studios. I have also worked with wedding couples in preparation for their First Dance. I enjoy choreographing. I love to teach dance because it's fun for me and I like spreading that joy. If you think you have two left feet, come take a class with me. I will show you just how easy it can be, and get you dancing in no time. I have taught a number of students and I understand the different learning types. I can alter my teaching methods to suit the learning style of the student. I am highly skilled at all the four styles of ballroom dancing: Standard, Smooth, Rhythm, and Latin. I have also studied Salsa, West Coast Swing, Argentine Tango, and a little bit of Lindy Hop. I am best at: Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Cha-cha, Rumba, East Coast Swing, Mambo, Bolero, Jive, Paso Doble, Samba, and Viennese Waltz.

  • violin

I have been playing violin for 13 years. I am trained in Suzuki Method, Classical music, and Fiddle. I started playing violin when I was 10 years old. I excelled very quickly and was soon put into the advanced orchestra at my school. In middle school I became concert mistress of the orchestra, and in high school I played with a college orchestra. I always got into the Districts orchestra every year, and I attended summer music camps every summer of my childhood. In highschool I taught violin lessons to 15 students each week after school. I also taught a group class each weekend and I arranged music for the group to play at local nursing homes (to satisfy my community service requirement for graduation). I also prepared my students to play for recitals and auditions of their own. Though I didn't go to college for music, I did play in the regional professional symphony orchestra in the town I went to college. The strings program at my college was poor, so I auditioned for the professional orchestra and was the only student from my college to get in for 3 years. I started a string quartet group and was the student group leader for our rehearsals. I brought the group up to a level where we were asked to play for the President's Reception Speech on Parent's Weekend at the college. I still enjoy playing now, and I have been branching out to the local fiddle and Irish Seisun music scene.

Student Feedback:

  • Exceptional Tutor - most highly recommended

Sharon was a pleasure to work with. She is highly intelligent, gifted, and very professional. She not only worked with my daughter (who has a learning disability) but also with me so that I would better be able to help my daughter learn. I found Sharon to be flexible in her scheduling, even allowing for last minute changes in appointment times. She was easy to contact, and returned my calls promptly. She also has a lovely personality! Although we are no longer in need of a tutor at this time, I would hire Sharon again in a heartbeat. I highly recommend her! Sandra Johnson
