My name is Toyya, and I have a Bachelors of Science from MIT in Management Science with a concentration in Operations Research (applied math), as well as a Master of Science in Operations Research from Northeastern University. I currently work doing statistical analysis for the federal government.
Tutoring Experience: I began tutoring almost 10 years ago when I was in high school helping elementary students in mathematics. From there, I became a Math TA helping secondary students as well as physics students who needed additional help. I have worked with a tutoring companies for over 5 years where I have helped secondary and post secondary students in calculus (AP and College), physics (HS and College), statistics, probability, and SAT Math/SAT II math prep.
Teaching Style: I work well with students who are truly interested in learning the material. I find that I learn best when I understand where an equation came from and why it makes sense, so I teach my students the same way. Having a student memorize an equation will not help them to be better problem solvers or learn when to apply the appropriate methods in different problem types. I am very outgoing and animated. My students generally enjoy working with me because I make sessions fun. I can also serve as a mentor, and work well with parents and adults.
