I am an extremely motivated, compassionate, and very organized language instructor and tutor, with a passion for languages, literature, and learning. I have done extensive studies in the US (I triple majored in French, Spanish, and Italian as an undergraduate, and I hold graduate degrees in multiple languages as well. I have an MA in French, another in Italian; and PhDs in progress in various Romance Languages), and I have also attended schools and universities in France, Spain, Italy, and Portugal, which solidified my fluency in these languages years ago.
More importantly, I have over ten years of experience teaching and tutoring: Foreign Languages, Literature, Writing and Composition, Editing, and English at the high school and college level, as well as a demonstrated history of successful teaching and instruction. I have received numerous teaching awards and flawless student evaluations. I have a talent for rendering complex issues comprehensible to my students, and I pride myself on being able to motivate others in an academic environment, garnering enthusiasm and interest.
I am focused, poised, reliable and patient, with the ability to bring levity to arduous situations and maintain a sense of humor under pressure. I am accustomed to performing under deadlines, and I never sacrifice consistency and quality. I have excellent leadership qualities and look forward to working with you! Hello!

I usually am not one to write reviews, but I felt compelled to write one about my tutor Alani because she is THAT good. I became interested in French from a very young age, but sadly my aptitude in French has diminished over the years due to typical life stuff (work, personal life, etc). I did not want to completely lose my knowledge of or passion for French so I decided to look into WyzAnt for a tutor who could help me get back up to speed.
I decided to go with Alani because, quite frankly, I was seriously impressed by her qualifications. Her list of tutoring subjects is ridiculously extensive and comprehensive. Made me think to myself, "Ok, she can talk the talk, but can she walk the walk?!!"
Well, I'm happy to say that yes, she most definitely can walk the walk. In all seriousness, she is an amazing tutor, and I have been so happy working with her. Alani has really been accommodating to my crazy limited availability schedule, but more importantly, she has been so patient and so helpful to me. I'm one of those people who has a million questions and can sometimes be unsure of myself, but she always knows how to answer every one of those questions and she NEVER makes me feel like it's a "stupid" question, or that I cannot ask her something.
I've even asked her questions about Spanish (I love learning languages!) and she's been very clear and helpful with that as well.
I have to say that I have seen my French improve dramatically in the short time I've been working with her, and I am really happy with the results. Merci, Alani!!
Alani is very patient and helpful! She made a subject that was difficult for me easy to understand. I appreciate her thoroughness and patience. Highly recommend.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
With a college background in classics and liberal arts, I continue to incorporate the classics in my daily studies. Both my PhD coursework and my dissertation are centered around the classics.

I have served as a volunteer college admissions representative for my alma mater for many years, and I have a clear idea of what colleges are looking for. I have also served on numerous boards geared towards facilitating students' academic achievement, and I have worked as a mentor for students applying for college and college students applying for graduate school for many years.
I have assisted students with finding the college(s) that best suit(s) them; I have helped them apply to college; and I have worked with many students on their application essays and personal statements. All of the students with whom I have worked have had great success getting into the colleges of their choice.
