Bio

I teach music production in Ableton, Logic Pro X, FL Studio, and Pro Tools. Using my experience as a RIAA Gold producer (Yeat, Trippie Redd, Soulja Boy, etc.) and as a graduate with BFA from the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU, I meet aspiring producers, DJs, songwriters, artists, and more where they are at and focus my lessons on the student's goals. I work with students of all ages, and have experience working with kids as young as 10, upwards of 50 and everywhere in between. I have covered subjects such as beat making, mixing/mastering, portfolio building for college applications, composition, DJing, audio recording, music theory, business/management/promotion in the entertainment industry, and more.

My hands on experience in the industry gives me a unique position to bring real world knowledge into every session on a number of topics. I'm committed to helping students follow their passion for music production since that's what got me started and keeps me going today. Whatever genre or approach they're into is something that I likely have experience with and am happy to dive into with them to make lessons as worthwhile as possible. If that's making beats, making professional DJ ready EDM tracks, or talking philosophically about what's made certain records successful and what a producer's role is, I'm stoked to be a part of someone's journey in music and help however I can.

Approved Subjects

Composition (Music)

Composition (Music)

I compose/produce/mix music professionally in New York. I graduated from NYU with honors from the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music and studied all aspects of music including theory and composition. I typically write pop music but have plenty of experience composing for advertisements as well as writing for string and horn sections, and solo piano pieces.
Ear Training

Ear Training

As a full-time music producer, composer, and mix engineer, every day is test of my critical listening skills. I've developed practical and useful ways to identify intervals, harmony, melody, as well as breaking down arrangements and sonic textures. Critically listening is a fundamental skill to leveling up musicianship, fluency on any instrument, and even being able to write and produce your own music so I'm very passionate to teach ear training to anyone who's looking to learn at any level.
Guitar

Guitar

My relationship with the guitar is likely quite different than most tutors on here. I began my exploration of the instrument as a means of expanding my palette as a producer and my perspective is shaped by this introduction to the instrument. I focus on how the instrument can be used express oneself, write songs, create otherworldly sounds, and more. I am by no means a virtuosic player, but I have a strong grasp of the fundamentals and how to use the instrument in a broader context of composing and producing music. I also focus a lot on guitar tone, and how to bring the best out of the instrument whether that's an acoustic or an electric. Having recorded countless session guitarists, I also can advise on best practices for the recording studio. Pedals, outboard effects, and amplifiers are my jam. If this sounds like what you're looking for, we'll work well together!
Music Production

Music Production

I have produced over 100 professional recordings for independent, indie label, and major label artists, as well as for myself. I currently work as a freelance producer and mix engineer and currently working with artists and labels active in the music industry. During my time studying at the Clive Davis Institute at NYU, I learned under some of the greatest producers out there such as Bob Power, Chris Tabron, Nick Sansano, and Erin Tonkon.
Music Theory

Music Theory

My goal is to make music theory intuitive and functional for every student I work with. I've worked with all ages on teaching music theory and know how to avoid the traps that most students end up falling into. I am also comfortable tailoring my lessons to whatever your musical background may be to get things to click as soon as possible.
Piano

Piano

I have played piano for as long as I can remember and I've been a professional music producer for 8 years. I can help you with piano as a tool for expressing yourself, writing music how it is in your head, and expanding your musical vocabulary. If you're looking to learn how to play a piece that was written hundreds of years ago and want to stick to exactly what's on the page, I can help you with that but I'm sure there's a better tutor than me. If you want to understand the backbone of contemporary music through the piano and be able to bring it to your own songs and compositions to create new material that speaks to you and others, I would be thrilled to work with you. We can talk about functional music theory, how to play less notes than you think you need to, how to accompany yourself as a vocalist, how to use piano in an arrangement with other instruments, and anything you're interested in! If this sounds interesting to you, I'm confident we'll work well together and you'll get a lot out of it.

Great music teacher!

Toby really helped me understand how a digital song is put together. Not only did he help me understand the basics, but we recreated a song I really like together. I’m looking forward to working with him again.
