Hi Shelley - here's how I would approach this question.
If we replace the phrase "a number" with a variable, we can set up an equation to solve.
3X + 24 = 6X
Solving the equation -
24 = 3X
X = 8
We can verify this with substitution:
3(8) + 24 = 6(8)
48 = 48
