I assume everyone here is familiar with the adage that all text files should end with a newline. I've known of this "rule" for years but I've always wondered — why?
It's really more a style thing than anything else. There was a time when some editors and the like struggled to know the end of the file unless it had been terminated with a newline but this very rare now.
