The quotient of two numbers will only be a whole number if the
dividend is a multiple of the divisor ... In other words, if written as a fraction,
the numerator is a multiple of the denominator.
Example: 6/3 = 2 because 6/3 = (3(2))/3 = 2 ... 6 is a multiple of 3
24/8 = 3 because 24/8 = (8(3))/8 = 3 ... 24 is a multiple of 8
There are infinite examples where the quotient of two numbers is NOT a whole number
1/2 = 0.5
1/3 = 0.33333 to infinity
3/4 = 0.75
