How do you work out this math problem?
Hi, Emily.
-3(x-4) + 5 = -2x - 2
-3x + 12 + 5 = -2x - 2
Now, combine terms:
17 -3x +3x = 3x - 2x -2
17 = x - 2
17 +2 = x
x = 19
Now, check your answer:
-3(15) + 5 = -2(19) - 2
-40 = -38 - 2 = -40
The answer is correct.
