Wylie is renting a bicycle from a local shop that charges $5 for rent a helmet, plus an hourly rate of $8.50 for the bike. For how long can white rent a bicycle if he pays a total of $47.50? 

 

Its says the answer is 5 hours but how do u show and explain hoe to get the answer.

let y = the amount she spent = 47.50, let 5 = what she paid for a helmet, let x = the number of hours

 

y = 8.50x + 5 = 47.50

42.50 = 8.50x

x = 5
