Convert the fractions to decimals and divide by the time.
Joe: 2 1/4 miles / 15 minutes
= 2.25/15 miles/min = 0.15 miles/min
Julia: 3 3/4 miles / 25 minutes
= 3.75/25 miles/min = 0.15 miles/min
Ha! They both ran at the same speed.
