how to write a quadratic expression in descending powers of x?

i dont really get how to solve for problems like this. can you help, please

For example, x² + 5x + 6 = 0 is a quadratic equation in descending powers of x.  The exponents keep getting smaller.  To solve this type of equation, you would factor,  set each factor equal to zero, and solve.

(x+3)(x+2) = 0

x + 3 = 0 or x + 2 = 0

x = -3    or    x = -2
