Hi, 

you use to get paid $24 per hour plus $5 for every set of steak knives you sold. your new contract says you will het paid $12 an hour plus $7 fkr every set of steak knives you sell. how many sets of steak knives would you have to sell per hour to get paid as much as you used to? please provide a relevant Equation and show all working. Thank you.

x=amount of knives sold per hour

 

24 + 5x = 12 + 7x

         24 = 12 + 2x

         12 = 2x

         x  = 6 knives per hour

Answer 2

To make up the drop in base salary ($12) you would have to sell more knives.

24 + 5k = 12 + 7k where k is # of sets of knives sold in one hour.

12 = 2k so k = 6 sets/hour.

 

If your sales/hour rating had been < 6 sets per hour, the new policy is not advantageous to you.
