A school baseball team earned $3416.90 from selling 5716 tickets to their game. If grandstand tickets sold for 65 cents each and bleacher tickets sold for 40 cents each, how many of the bleacher tickets were sold?

I am assuming you have not solved simultaneous linear equations since this is pre-algebra.

 

x=# of $0.65 tickets

5716-x=# of $0.40 tickets

3416.9=0.65x+0.40(5716-x)

3416.9=0.65x+2286.4-0.4x

3416.9=0.25x+2286.4

3416.9-2286.4=0.25x

1130.5=0.25x

113050=25x

x=113,050/25

x=4522 $0.65 tickets

5716-4522=1194 $0.40 tickets (answer)

0.65*4522=$2939.3

0.40*1194=$477.60

$2939.30+$477.60=$3416.90
