Two step equation story problem

Jims tim won 12 points less than 4 times the points that sams team won. Jane team won 4 times the points that Tina's team won. If the three teams won 1389 points altogether, how many did jims team win

Y = 4x - 12 --->  (y+12)/4 = x

 

y = 4z ---> z = y/4

 

 

x + y + z = 1389

 

(y+12)/4 + y + y/4 = 1389

 

y + 12 + 4y + y = 1389*4

 

6y + 12 = 1389*4

 

6y = 1389*4 - 12

 

  y = (1389*4 -12)/6

 

 y = 924

 

z = 924/4 = 231
