Sloving a question

A 150 g baseball is attached to a string. Holding the string you swing the baseball around in above your head so that it moves at 30m/s in a circular arc of 50 cm. With how much force must you hold on to the string to prevent it from flying out of your hand?

Centripetal force = mv²/r

• m = mass = 150 g = 0.150 kg
• v = velocity of the baseball = 30 m/s
• r = radius of the circle = 50 cm = 0.5 m

 

Note that I converted the mass and radius to standard SI units.  Plug the numbers into the formula to compute the answer.
