Give the equation of a line that is parallel to y=3 through the point (4,4). I don't undertstand how to solve this

It is a horizontal line.

It passes through (4,4)

So the equation must be y=4

The given line y=3 =   0X + 3

 

The slope of any horizontal line is zer0.

 

Parallel lines have the same slope.

Any line parallel to a horizontal line must also be horizontal,

with slope zer0.

 

y = M x + b is the equation of ANY line.

Since (4,4) is on it, x=4, y=4 and slope M=0.

 

4 = (0)(4) + b

4 = b

 

y = 0X+4 = 4
