Group all terms that have common factors.
x3 - 5x2 + 2x - 10 =
x2(x - 5) + 2(x - 5)
The common factor is (x - 5).
(x - 5)(x2 + 2)
If you had not rearranged the terms, you would have still been able to factor and obtain the same result.
