Help me solve this math problem on my homework

Question

A square pool has a volume of 3,476 cubic feet and a depth of 4 feet. There is a deck around the pool that is 8 feet on all sides. A couple builds a fence 3.5 feet high around the pool. How many square feet of fence surround the pool?

Volume=length*width*height

Volume=length*width*4

Volume=3476 cu ft

3476=length*width*4

3476/4=length*width

869=length*width

since the pool is a square, all four sides have the same measure

take the square root of 869

√869=29.478806 feet on each side of the pool

the deck is 8 feet around the pool

the large square around the pool, which includes the deck, is how many feet on each side ?

29.478806+8+8=45.478806 feet

each section of fence is 3.5 feet high and 45.478806 feet long

A=l*w

A=45.478806*3.5

A=159.175821 square feet for the area of each of the four sections of fence

multiply the area of one section by 4 to get the total area of fence

4*159.175821=636.703284 sq ft of fencing altogether

there is 636.703284 square feet of fencing surrounding the pool
