Why do we use mean? When do I use it?

The use of "mean" or "average" also comes in handy when you are comparing the mean of a sample against the mean of the population as a whole.  There are ways of determining if the sample mean is significantly different from the population and if that difference is important.

Mean is same as average:

Meaning of the Sum of the number taken in an event / number of cases.

 

   Mean is used to show the normality of a feature of a population.

 

    Like for instance: Blood Pressure, where its range is measured in individuals, then any number outside 

    the allowed range can cause problem in health.
